Thirty years of leading eastern Nova Scotia’s forestry sector
Experience
Mira Forestry is one of eastern Nova Scotia’s most experienced private forestry management company.
For over 30 years, Mira has been a successful family-run business. The succession of the company is the next generation leading the company in producing green sustainable carbon free energy by introducing state of the art boiler systems to customers.
The family business began working in Cape Breton forests in 1986 under a Government of Nova Scotia silviculture program. As the company’s managed properties grew, so did the importance of developing new markets for the variety of wood products harvested.
Pulpwood was shipped to Port Hawkesbury Paper (formerly Stora Forest Industries) for paper production and softwood logs were shipped to mills all over Nova Scotia for lumber products.
Hardwoods harvested under forest management prompted the start-up of Mira’s subsidiary, G. Reginato Fuelwood. As valued cliental grew, Mira became the reliable supplier for quality seasoned firewood, servicing Louisbourg, Gabarus, Sydney, Glace Bay, and North Sydney.
In a short time, the demand for fuel wood grew and the company established a seven-acre woodyard.
The expansion allowed the company to invest in a mechanized firewood processor to increase production, stockpile more inventory, and construct a new building to house the processor. This modernization of operations ensured production was underway in all weather conditions and all seasons.
